STUDIES ON MORPHOGENESIS OF BULBLETS FROM BULB SCALES OF LILIUM DAVIDII VAR.UNICOLOR COTTON IN VITRO

  • The bulb-scales of Liliurn used as explantswere cultured on MS basic medium supplemented with NAA 0.2rag/l and 6-BA 2mg/l. At 9-10 days of culturing bulblets grew out from adaxial surface of the bulb-scales at the morphological lower end of the explants. It was also observed that the regenerative efficiency of the apical, middle or basal segment of a bulb-scale was similar.plantlets were obtained by induction of the roots on the same medium about after a month in culture. Under cytohistological observations on bulblet formation it was found that cell divisions began in the epidermal or subepidermal cells and the process of morphogenesis of bulblets was similar to that of adventitious buds. The starch grains in the tissue were utilized as available source of energy for the development of bulblets. Light may not be necessary for bulblet morphogenesis.
