A STUDY ON YOUNG OVULE CULTURE AND CROSSING WITH RELATIVE SPECIES IN FABA BEAN

  • In order to improve the resistance to disease, insect and increase the podding rate of faba bean (Vicia faba L.), crossing faba bean with its relative wild species is expected. But since abortion of hybrid young embryo occurs early, up to now there is not successful crossing. To overcome the difficulty in development of young embryo is thought as key problem. In this paper, a culture method which entire plantlet was obtained from young ovule was established by using ovule of 15 days after self-pollination. The plant obtained by using this method have normally bloomed and fructified. The interspecific crossing between faba(♀) and 5 relative species(♂)and in vitro culture of ovule of 20 days after pollination were carried out. A callus was formed and regeneration plantlet was obtained in tube. A valuable try was done for overcoming abortion of young embryo in crossing faba bean with its relative species.
