Abstract
A study on the effects of pHvalue and hormones on cell growth and shikonin derivative formation in the suspension cultures of Arnebia euchroma cells was carried out.Suspension cultured cells have potential to regulate pHof the media. The favourable initial pHof the media for cell growth and shikonin deriative synthesis is 5.2-6.0.2,4-D,NAA,IBA or BAP has no positive effects on cell growth and strongly inhibits the biosynthesis of shikonin derivatives. The natural auxin IAA promotes not only cell growth but also shikonin derivative synthesis at concentrations between 0.5and 1.0mg/l.An addition of 0.5mg/l and 0.1 mg/l KT to growth medium and production medium, respectively,is helpful to increase cell weight and shikonin derivative yield.
