  • Saxicolous mosses were sampled over different habitats of Beishan,Jinhua City,Zhejiang Pro-(vince).86 moss species from a subset of 167 quadrats in 30 sites were recorded. The dominant families in species number are Pottiaceae(11 spp.),Brachytheciaceae(11 spp.),Thuidiaceae(10 spp.) and Hypnaceae(8 spp.).The dominant genera in species number are Bryum(7 spp.),Fissidens(7 spp.) and Brachythecium(6 spp.).Canonical correspondence analysis(CCA) based on the ecological important values of these 86 species and six environmental variables revealed that the distribution of these 86 moss species is significantly related to altitude, water availability and light intensity.Altitude is a primary determinant of plant cover, which in turn affects light, water availability, and therefore bryophyte distribution. The microtopography of boulders also accounts for the distribution. But no distinct relationship was showed between the inclination angle of the boulders and the distribution of the mosses.
