  • In process of anther culture of rice (Oryza sativa L.), the relationships between differences of anther culture abilities in different rice plant cultivars and the amylopectin content of its anther were found to be that initial energy metabolism plays a decisive role in the initiation and development of pollen grains. According to this, the author approached a new path of improving differentiation frequency of anther culture in rice. A series of experiments were carried out under the same steady condition, comparing the differences between anther culture abilities of different rice types. The results range as: Nuo rice>Keng rice>Hsien rice. The parallel relationship exists between difference of anther culture abilities and amylopectin contents measured in anther of rice. Amylopectin as compared with amylose has some advantages in amylolysis of analyzing the spacial configuration of both the amylose and the amylopectin. By measuring the respiratory iptensity of anther in culture, there was no difference in amylopectin of anther. It is proved that the initiation and development of the pollen cells and also on the transforming path from gametophyte to sporophyte for pollen cells.
