  • Two ecotypes of Eulaliopsis binata were used as materials to investigate the relationship between seed setting and apomictic traits. The flowers were pretreated by (A) emasculating then bagging,(B)removal of stigma and (C) crosspollination, respectively as compared with control: open-pollination after emasculation. The results indicated that pollination treatment did not show much influence on the seed set Pollen germination test revealed the pollen possessed normal activity (28% and 34% germination rate) while flowering and pollination, via fluorescent observation, the pollens of E. binata showed poor adherence to stigma. Though pollen grains could germinate on stigma but the pollen tube could not stretch into stigma further more. The above results concluded that E. binata could produce seed without involving of male gamete, their embryo and endosperm could develop autonomously without fertilization. As presented in has high degree of apomixis, E. binata might act as a potential valuable donor for apomixis gene.
