Abstract
This paper studied the effects of paclobutrazol (PBZ) on reactive oxygen metabolism and lipid peroxidation in Dioscorea zingiberensis Wright leaves, the results show that PBZ decreased O2 production rate by 14.5%, stimulated a 35.9, 15.2 and 25.0% increase in the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and puaiacol peroxidase (POD), promoted the synthesis of soluble protein and chlorophylls by 13.9 and 12.3%, and reduced malondialdehyde (MDA) content by 44.9% under normal growth condition. But both the decreased activities of SOD, CAT and POD as well as soluble protein and chlorophylls contents and the production of O2- and MDA were maintained to a lower degree than their corresponding controls after exposure to drought stress.
