  • In this paper the anthor expoundes the experiment method and the result of breeding of the new Chinese bowl lotus cultivars during 1982—1986. The author got the bowl lotus seeds of the first filial generation from open—pollination and artificial crossbreeding in 1982—1983. In the next year, the seeds were directly sown into the bowl. Then 12 new Chinese bowl lotus cultivars of which flowers are novel in shape, fresh in colour and suitable for growing as house plants are selected from these seedlings. The experiments in these years proved that the method of selecting and utilizing open—pollinated seedlings and simple artificial cross between cultivars are simple effective and quick in breeding for new bowl lotus cultivars.
