Abstract
Schlarbaum et al, recognized that an ancestor of Sequoia sempervirens which had not the marker chromosome pairs was not Metatsequoia but a species of Cunninghamia, that had contributed a genome to Sequoia. According to the karyology and morphology data, the present author did not agree with the opinion and supported that Metasequoia was an ancestor of Sequoia suggested by Stebbins. Metasequoia may be the male parent.
