A STUDY ON THE POLLEN GERMINATION OF SOME VEGETABLES IN CUCURBITACEAE

  • The viability of 8 cultivated species in 7 genera of Cucurbitaceae was studied with the technique of germination in vitro.The result showed that pollen germination of these vegetable crops in Cucurbitaceae is boron-need, air-love, and more storable type.Moderate sucrose in the artificial medium is favorable for pollen germination and pollen tube expanding in particular.Further more, an obvious relationship between pollen germination ability and relative pollen aperture characters was also discovered in the experiment.
