  • The process of microspore abortion and abnormal wall layer development are studied in this paper It is reavealed that microspore abortion aceurs between meiosis and non-vacuolate microspore stage. Before microspore mitosis all of them have been dried ant shrivelled. On the other hand, tapetums ramain undegenerrated or half degenerated and endotheciums are unable to develop fibrous thickenings at mature anther stage.The relationship between microspore abortion and abnormal wall layers is also studied It is considered that microspore abortion does not result from, but may result in abnormal development of wall layers.
