Abstract
The effects of product release and in situ extraction on cell growth and taxol release and accumulation in cell suspension cultures of Taxus chinensis were investigated. Addition of 2 mg/L ammonium cerous sulphate on day 12 gave the greatest taxol production at 8.3 mg/L, among which 2.4 mg/L was released out of the cell, which was 4 and 12 times that of the control culture. Extracellular taxol production reached 9 mg/L when 2 mg/L ammonium cerous sulphate and 5% oleic acid (v/v) were added together, which was 45 times that of the control culture. The highest taxol accumulation of 24.5 mg/L with the release ratio of 60% was obtained when 2 mg/L ammonium cerous sulphate, 5% oleic acid (v/v) and feeding solution with 20 g/L sucrose were added.
